New year, new team

Coached by Jeremy Storost, the soccer team this year has a strong line up of six varsity seniors and the fresh faces of three freshman varsity players.

Hayden P. (12), Paul G. (12) and Logan S. (12) lead the team as captains. Both Logan S. and Paul G. agree that the team has benefited from the upperclassmen leadership and camaraderie.

“We are a very small team but we have a strong senior class,” Paul G. said. “We have freshmen who greatly contribute to the team.”

However, there have been some difficulties.

“We are having trouble with scoring,” Logan S. said, and Paul G. agreed, adding that the defensive end was also struggling.

“Our season has had its ups and downs,” Paul G. said, “but our improvement has exponentially increased. Positions have changed but more is getting done.”

This year, bringing a bit of youth to the team, three freshman have stormed the field as varsity players. One of these players is Brock B. (9), who says that he has been “honored, excited, and humbled by the experience,” along with the other two boys Tim D. (9) and Matthew S. (9).

Although being on varsity at such a young age has been an “overwhelming challenge to adjust to the team style, size and speed of the game,” Brock B. says he hopes he has brought the skill and the desire to ultimately help his team win.

Some of the team’s proudest moments include beating Tipp City, and obtaining a win over Bellbrook on Oct. 2 after a loss earlier in the season.

The next game is scheduled for Oct. 7 at Mack Hummon Stadium against Monroe, which is the team’s senior night.
