The controversial execution of Ronald Phillips has grown more and more complicated since it was scheduled. According to ABC News, Phillips, who raped and killed a three-year-old in Summit County, Ohio, is asking for his organs to be donated. Only one inmate has ever done this before, and that inmate was not facing immediate execution.

He will also be the first  to be executed via an untested mix of drugs; the sedative midazolam, and the painkiller hydromorphone, according to slate.com. The reason for the change in drugs is that the company manufacturing stopped selling them for use in executions.

Phillips, sentenced in 1993, was initially supposed to be executed on November 14th, but Gov. John Kasich has postponed this until July 2nd. He did this to allow enough time for the testing of Phillips’ organs to see if they are able to be harvested after the execution using the new drugs, according to CBS.

His sick mother prompted him to ask for his organs to be donated, preferably to her. His mother needs a kidney and he hopes to donate any other organs that he is allowed to, according to newsnet5.com.
