A key event to the Homecoming week is the bonfire which offers a chance for a community to see their football team as they prepare for Friday night’s football game against Brookville.

While most are ecstatic there is an underlying nervous feeling.

“I feel nervous playing on our home turf but I know we’re gonna win,” J.D Dorjee (9) said.

Others are restless for the Friday night lights.

“We have prepared long enough that we are tired of losing and we’re ready to win,” Kam Ketterer (9) said.

Some seniors reflect on their last bonfire as an Oakwood student as it a rite of passage.

“I’m so happy I can spend spend my last bonfire with the volleyball team but it’s a bittersweet moment,” Shannon O’Connor (12) said.

Senior Lydia Pocisk, a nominee for homecoming queen and a part of the homecoming court, speaks on her humbling experience in the coming week.

“I’m very grateful to be a part of a community I can share my senior year with,” Pocisk said.

While others are ready to head face to face with Brookville and dance the night away at the Roaring 20’s Homecoming dance, Joe Ferrell, a member of the Oakwood Fire Department, was impressed by the community turnout.

“The community was very supportive of their football team. They look like they’re ready to play some football,” Ferrell said.

The bonfire proves to once again to be one of Oakwood’s great annual events and a staple for the homecoming week.
