The wrestling season dwindles down to an end with the last few tournaments of the season, and Oakwood wrestlers have high hopes for success.

The veterans of the team pulled in numerous victories this season, and plan to do just as well in the upcoming weeks.

Sectionals take place in Tipp City on Feb. 16th, Districts are at Bowling Green on Feb. 22nd and 23rd, and finally the State Tournament starts on Feb. 28th.

Rocco B. (11) has a record of 20 wins, 9 losses. He placed 2nd at the Oakwood invitational, 3rd at the Bellbrook invitational, and 2nd at the SWBL League Tournament.

“He is a wrestler that has been very consistent throughout the year,” Nick Berger, Oakwood wrestling coach, said.

Additionally, the team holds prospects for its younger members.

“The team in general is very young and light on numbers. Our freshman class has a lot of raw talent and loads of potential,” Berger said.

Tristan T. (9) is a freshman who has a record of 13 wins, 11 losses and placed 1st at the Oakwood invite. When the season ends, the team will still be conditioning and preparing for the next season.

“The next season will begin in November, but we have a lot of work to do in the off season. There are tournaments all summer that we will encourage all of our wrestlers to attend. In addition, the team will be attending a week camp in July,” Berger said.

Part of the team’s energy is focused on getting students to join.

“We really need to increase our number next year. This will be the main focus during the off season,” Berger. said. “It is never too late to join wrestling. A good example of this is Alex Marquis (12), who is a first year senior.”
