Teen Read Week

These are some of the newest books in the Library. Last month, the LMC conducted Teen Read Week. “The main purpose of Teen Read Week is to promote reading for fun,” Mindi Purdy said.

Last month, the Library Media Center, along with the Wright Public Library, conducted the read-for-fun event known as Teen Read Week.

“Teen Read Week, held annually in the third week of October, shows teens the values of reading for fun,” YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association), head organization of Teen Read Week, said.

Teen Read Week consists of events that students participate in to promote reading for fun.

“Events were held in the OJH/OHS  Library Media Center and at Wright Public Library throughout the week. Some events were conducted during the day, some in the afternoon, and some were all-day and week-long,” Mindi Purdy, head staff member of the Library Media Center at Oakwood High School, said.

This year, many students and staff members participated in the annual event.

“Over 75 students participated in the various activities and [10 staff members],” Purdy said.

“I like reading for fun and this week is just another opportunity to do so,” Ana Schauer (10) said. “Reading for fun is definitely something people should do more often.”

Teen Read Week will continue to be an annual event in Oakwood and at Oakwood High School.Purdy

Purdy said, “The Library Media Center has celebrated Teen Read Week for at least the last 4 years [since I’ve been here in Oakwood]. This is the first year the school library teamed up with Wright Public Library, and it was a success.”
